Lillian Gish: Slights and Trivialities

Interview with Lillian Gish

I made a decision very early in my life that I was going to be happy and successful--a winner at things. I wasn't going to be defeated by slights and trivialities. I have always looked upon anger and gossip and chatter about small things as little vials of poison, and most people are perfectly happy to keep sipping from them, destroying any chance they might have of being helpful, useful, or happy.

I was going to be good at whatever I did, wherever I did it. That was my decision.
