Amanda is one of those people--one of those characters--for whom Judgment Day arrives hourly. Amanda can see her future, and it is bleak. But she fights. She dreams. She moves forward--for herself and for her children--making wishes on moons and stars and four-leaf clovers and raindrops and what is left of her faith. She is metaphorically on her knees every hour of the day, praying for a faith that was bleached out with her youth.
